Katie Stone

Printmaker & Illustrator / GRAFT Associate

Katie is a printmaker, illustrator and teacher based in Sandown. Originally from Brecon, she studied Illustration at Camberwell College of Arts before moving to the island in 2014. Working across both traditional and digital processes, she experiments with combining a range of printmaking techniques alongside her illustration practice.

‘I didn’t start exploring printmaking techniques until I moved to the island, and it is now an integral part of my practice.’

Through layered textures, line work and imaginative narratives, Katie’s work reflects the ongoing process of exploration as an artist. Inspired by storytelling, folklore, symbolism and traditional sayings, Katie has been developing sequential artwork and character-driven imagery that blends narrative with atmosphere.

‘I am drawn to the everyday and the ordinary. Simple lives, familiar objects and the characters that inhabit them. I am interested in psychology and behaviours, thoughts and traditions.  Through my own reflections of personal growth and realisation I recently created my first completed sequential piece that was exhibited last year. ‘JUST DON’T’ is a linocut story board that illustrates the problems of being soft-hearted.’

Alongside exhibiting and selling her own work, Katie also creates designs and illustrations for a variety of clients. In parallel with her creative practice, she is passionate about teaching and supporting others in developing their artistic skills and creative confidence.
